Tips

Never sleep on your stomach! Sleeping on your stomach can worsen or even cause back and neck problems.

Replace your mattress on time! Mattresses should be replaced every 10 years or so. The resilience and carrying capacity of a mattress is reduced over time with use. The result is that your body is no longer supported properly which may cause a range of problems.

Avoid heavy physical activity such as sports, bending, turning and stretching for the first 24 hours after treatment. Even avoid heavy household activities such as vacuum cleaning, cleaning windows, sweeping, gardening, picking things up, carrying heavy shopping etc.

Ensure that you take sufficient rest. Rest is a great healer.

Drink water! Most people drink too little water, while water is so important for our body. Ensure that you drink enough water after a treatment so that any waste products that are released can be eliminated properly. Drink at least one litre of water every day (on top of other drinks such as coffee, tea and soft drinks).

Exercise for at least 30 minutes every day. Whether it is walking, bicycling or swimming, try to exercise for at least 30 minutes every day five days in the week. According to Ministry of Health statistics, 5.8 million people aged 20-64 are insufficiently active when using the criterion of 30 minutes of intensive movement five days a week. The Health Council of the Netherlands published an advisory ("Overgewicht en obesitas", ‘overweight and obesity’) in which statistics reveal that 40% of the population is overweight.

Overweight, along with smoking and poor nutrition, is one of the most significant risk factors for health. (Source: NISB, Netherlands Institute for Sport and Physical Activity)
