Neck and upper back problems
Headache
A headache is purely a symptom, a warning that the body sends. It is a signal that there is a problem somewhere that needs to be dealt with. Headaches are a common complaint among both young and old. There are different types of headache, the most common of which is caused by tension. While the symptoms of tension headaches may not be identical in every patient, there are similarities.
Migraine
Migraine is another type of headache. Patients who suffer from migraine are often over-sensitive to light and noise. Patients often feel nauseous during attacks, and often vomit. Migraine is sometimes associated with certain foodstuffs, medicines or alcohol.
Neck/shoulder/arm pain
Neck problems are very common and have a number of causes. Nerves run from the neck to the arm. A blockage in the neck can cause inflammation of these nerves and result in a range of complaints such as a stiff neck, a nagging burning pain just below the skull or at the level of the neck-shoulder, or shooting pains towards the shoulders and arms.
Whiplash
Whiplash is caused by a short sudden movement of the neck and head, as sometimes occurs in traffic accidents or a fall. The movement can be back to front, front to back, or sideways. It can damage the vertebrae and the soft parts of the neck such as the muscles, tendons and ligaments. The damage is often not visible on X-rays.
RSI
RSI stands for "Repetitive Strain Injury". This is a collective name for problems of the wrist, elbow, arm shoulder and/or neck. The problems are usually caused by repetitive movements over a long time.
Upper b
ack pain
Pain in the upper back usually gets worse gradually. It is often a consequence of poor posture, repetitive and one-sided use of the arms, or pushing oneself beyond one’s capacity.
