Disorders

Some of the more common disorders a chiropractor deals with are:

Arthritis

Arthritis, sometimes called degenerative joint disease or degenerative arthritis, is linked to changes in the cartilage and the synovial fluid of the joints. If these changes occur in the spinal column, this is called discopathy and osteoarthritis.

Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis, or decreased bone density, is a natural phenomenon in which the bone tissue breaks down. People with osteoporosis break bones easily; just a little accident may result in a broken wrist or hip. Even a simple action such as picking something up, for example a bag of shopping, or an unlucky step off the pavement can break a vertebra, causing a collapse of the vertebra or a compression fracture.

Scoliosis

Scoliosis is a condition in which the spinal column grows curved, giving a sideways bend. It is a condition which usually becomes noticeable at a young age. How can you check if your child has scoliosis? Have your child stand with his/her back to you and bend forwards slowly. Look closely at the shape of the spine and the position of the shoulder blades. If there is a bend in the spine (gibbus) then there is a good chance that your child has scoliosis. You can always have your child examined by a chiropractor.
